What is an Agile Magnetics?

An Agile Magnetics job typically involves designing, manufacturing, or testing custom magnetic components, such as transformers, inductors, and coils, for various industries. Employees may work in engineering, production, quality control, or sales, depending on their role. The job often requires expertise in electrical and mechanical engineering, material science, and manufacturing processes. Agile Magnetics focuses on precision and efficiency to meet customer specifications.

What skills and qualifications are needed for an Agile Magnetics?

To thrive as an Agile Magnetics Engineer, you need a strong background in electrical engineering, experience in magnetic component design, and familiarity with manufacturing processes, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree. Proficiency with simulation software (such as ANSYS, Maxwell, or similar), CAD tools, and knowledge of industry standards and testing equipment is essential. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication are valued soft skills in this role. These competencies ensure the development of high-quality, efficient magnetic components and facilitate teamwork across design, testing, and manufacturing teams.

What are common challenges faced by Agile Magnetics engineers, and how are they addressed in the workplace?

Agile Magnetics Engineers often face design challenges related to optimizing magnetic component performance within tight size, cost, and material constraints. To overcome these issues, they work closely with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing and quality assurance, to balance technical requirements with practical limitations. Regular prototyping, testing, and iterative refinement are central to the role, ensuring that client and industry standards are consistently met. Supportive environments typically encourage ongoing professional development and collaboration, making it easier to resolve complex technical issues and stay abreast of evolving technologies.

Engineer IV, Magnetics

Full Time Fort Worth, TX, US

3 days ago Requisition ID: 2272

Company Overview:

MP Materials (NYSE: MP) is rebuilding American industrial capability for a new era of autonomy, robotics, and electrification.

We are the only U.S. company with a fully integrated rare earth supply chain—from mining and refining to advanced metal and magnet manufacturing. Our products include both the critical materials used to make permanent magnets and the finished magnets themselves—enabling next-generation technologies in robotics, automation, aerospace, transportation, defense, and energy systems. These materials are the foundation of physical AI—the convergence of computation, movement, and control.

We hire ambitious, mission-driven people who want to tackle complex challenges and shape the future of strategic industries. Our culture is rooted in teamwork, resiliency, and integrity, with a deep commitment to operational excellence and national purpose. MP is rapidly evolving from a materials producer into a leading U.S. manufacturer—and our people are driving that transformation.

Position Overview:

MP Materials is seeking an Engineer IV to join the Magnet Technology group to support development technologies for advanced manufacturing to produce high-performance rare earth permanent magnets. The Engineer IV will specialize in modelling complex metallurgical chemistries and processes through an integrated computation and materials engineering (ICME) approach. Computational methods are expected to include thermodynamic modeling, materials informatics, machine learning, atomistic simulations, molten metal fluid dynamics, image-based microstructure analysis, and more. The ideal candidate will support multiple R&D efforts focused on the design and manufacture of rare earth permanent magnets, working alongside experimental process engineers to incorporate physical results to models. This is a rare opportunity to play a key role in returning an essential manufacturing capability to the USA.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thermodynamic and process simulations to advance understanding of magnet manufacturing processes and magnetic performance.
  • Develop process-structure-property models and databases, and use these tools to design and optimize next-generation rare earth magnets.
  • Work closely with experimental team members to integrate experimental feedback into physical property models.
  • Engage external institutions including university researchers, strategic partners, and government laboratories to add value from new technologies and applied research.
  • Represent MP Materials within the industry by publishing in technical and trade journals and presenting at conferences.

Basic Qualifications:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Materials Science & Engineering, Metallurgy, Physics, or related field.
  • Familiarity with metallurgical manufacturing processes and materials characterization methods.
  • Deep understanding of materials, thermodynamics, and kinetics.
  • Agile researcher, adept at identifying untested questions about materials and the interactions between processing, structure, and performance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desired Qualities:

  • Experience with rare earth materials and permanent magnets.
  • Experience leading technical development projects, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Lifelong learner able and enthusiastic to apply existing skills and experiences to new problems.

MP Materials is Proud to be an Equal Opportunity / Affimative Action Employer.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. Underrepresented groups/Women/Disabled/Veterans are encouraged to apply. Candidates whose disabilities make them unable to meet the position’s requirements will still be considered qualified if they can perform the essential functions of the job with reasonable accommodation.

Your Right to Work – In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment verification document form upon hire.
