Job description

Overview

Plans, directs, and evaluates the overall nursing care and functions in a particular nursing unit or during an assigned shift. Coordinates the activities of the unit and directs, organizes, and assigns work. Assesses, monitors, and educates on patient care. Institutes emergency procedures as necessary. Associate's degree in nursing required. Bachelors degree preferred. At least 3-5 years of clinical experience, Charge Nurse experience preferred. Licensure as a registered nurse. Ability to communicate professional at all times with patients, families, other departments with in the facility as well as outside agencies. Assist in coordinating semi-annual disaster drills. Oversees departmental quality data and inputs information accordingly. Plays a primary role in Chest Pain and Stroke accreditation.

Responsibilities

Supervision: Responsible for compliance with overall nursing practice standards of the specialty area (Reports to Department Director). Responsible for compliance with standards during assigned shift (Reports to House Supervisor). Uses established principles of delegation and supervision to direct the activities of all licensed and non-licensed care givers and support staff in the delivery of patient care during their assigned shift. Uses independent judgment to ensure optimal delivery of patient care and appropriate use of available resources.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing. Bachelors Degree in Nursing preferred.

Experience: Two years experience in applicable specialty area.

Licenses/Certificates: Licensed by Alabama Board of Nursing. Current BLS, ACLS certification.

Desired Qualifications: Specialty certification recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in the applicable area of practice.
