Job description

The Archdiocese of St. Louis strives to teach and share our faith, serve others, and foster unity throughout the St. Louis area.  Once a part of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary's campus, the Cardinal Rigali Center in Shrewsbury, MO is today the headquarters and curia (governing body) for the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

Job Summary

The Afterschool Program Staff member supports the supervision, safety, and engagement of students participating in Holy Cross Academy's afterschool program. This position provides a nurturing, faith-filled environment where students can complete homework, participate in enrichment activities, develop positive social skills, and enjoy recreational opportunities. Afterschool Program Staff work collaboratively with school personnel to ensure a safe, organized, and welcoming experience for all students while supporting the mission and values of Holy Cross Academy.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise students during afterschool program hours and ensure their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Lead and assist with age-appropriate recreational, educational, and enrichment activities.
  • Support students with homework completion and study habits as needed.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive environment that promotes student growth and development.
  • Monitor student behavior and enforce school and program policies consistently.
  • Assist with student check-in and check-out procedures and maintain accurate attendance records.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and school staff regarding student needs and program activities.
  • Prepare, organize, and clean activity areas, classrooms, and supplies used during the program.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies, accidents, or behavioral concerns and report incidents as required.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, and school information.
  • Uphold and support the mission, values, and teachings of Holy Cross Academy and the Catholic Church.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience working with children in a school, childcare, camp, recreation, or similar setting preferred.
  • Ability to supervise and engage groups of students in a safe and positive manner.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated patience, dependability, flexibility, and professionalism.
  • Ability to follow established procedures and exercise sound judgment.
  • Basic computer proficiency and ability to maintain program records.
  • Ability to perform duties that may require standing, walking, bending, and lifting program materials.
  • Commitment to supporting the mission and values of Catholic education.
  • Successful completion of required background checks and safe environment training.
