Department: Admission Office
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Admission Visit Coordinator & Admission Operations Manager
Schedule: Part-time, Variable Hours as needed, from June 22nd through August 14th.
Tour Shifts: Based on Tour Guide(s) availability Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Designation: Staff - Non-Benefit Eligible
Travel: Rare
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Tour Guides are Hotchkiss students/alum responsible for representing Hotchkiss, displaying pride and passion for their school. Tour guides acting as representatives of Hotchkiss have the unique opportunity to provide prospective students with personal stories about their individual student experiences and student life on campus. Welcoming visitors, addressing questions, and conveying the school's resources and programs while on tour provides a rich experience and additional insight into our school community, mission, and school values.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Greeting families
  • Guiding Tours and answering questions about student life
  • Directing families to places after the tour
  • Assisting Admission Counselors with the Information Sessions
  • Other duties as assigned

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Be a Hotchkiss student/alum
  • Positive disposition during repetitive actions throughout each visit or session.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Hotchkiss, its mission and programs to translate to visitors its place, resources and student experience.
  • Previous tour guiding experience preferred, but not required. Online training, support, and monitoring will be provided.
  • Age requirement of 16 years old or older.
  • Prefer a current Hotchkiss School student, but open to recent alums.
  • On-time arrival to each assigned working day.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Ability and confidence to speak and convey school content as well as ease and comfort addressing questions.
  • Patience and physical stamina are required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and navigate the entire campus both indoors and outdoors,
  • Ability to speak loudly and walk backward if addressing a larger group on tour.
    Must be able to ascend and descend stairs.
  • Talk and hear while given tours and online information sessions.
  • Works in and is exposed to outdoor weather elements.
  • The Hotchkiss School is a tobacco-free and drug-free work environment.
