The Andover Recreation Division's Kid Care Program provides a safe, fun, and engaging after-school experience for children in Kindergarten through Grade 5 through games, activities, homework support, outdoor play, and enrichment opportunities. Assistant Group Leaders work under the supervision of a Group Leader and alongside experienced staff to supervise and engage children, support daily activities, encourage positive behavior, and help create a welcoming environment.

The program operates at all five Andover elementary schools. We'll do our best to place staff at a preferred location, based on program needs and availability. This is an ideal opportunity for students and others interested in education, sports and recreation, childcare, or community-based work who want to build their communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.

Work Schedule Hours available Monday through Friday, with shifts generally available between 3:00/3:30 and 5:30/6:00 p.m. The program operates five days per week, with the flexibility to work the number of days that fits your schedule. Help lead age-appropriate games, crafts, recreational activities, and enrichment opportunities under the direction of program staff. Support homework time, snack time, outdoor play, and other components of the daily program

Serve as a positive role model and encourage respectful, appropriate behavior. Maintain awareness of participants, assist with attendance and headcounts, and promptly report safety or behavioral concerns to a Group Leader or supervisor. Help prepare, organize, and clean program spaces, equipment, and activity materials.

Communicate positively and respectfully with children, families, coworkers, and supervisors. Follow all program policies, procedures, and emergency protocols, and assist in responding to incidents and emergencies as directed. Participate in required trainings and staff meetings.

Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Must be at least 16 years old. Interest in working with elementary-aged children in a group setting.

Responsible, dependable, punctual, and willing to learn. Ability to follow directions and work effectively as part of a team. Ability to communicate positively and appropriately with children, families, and coworkers.

Experience working with children through babysitting, volunteering, coaching, tutoring, camps, or similar activities is helpful but not required. CPR and First Aid certification preferred, or willingness and ability to obtain certification if required. Must successfully complete all applicable pre-employment requirements.

Supplemental Information The essential functions of this position require the ability to: Remain active and move throughout the program area for extended periods. Participate in and supervise indoor and outdoor activities, as appropriate. Bend, reach, and move between activity areas while supervising children.

Occasionally lift and carry program supplies, materials, and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. Observe children and respond promptly to safety concerns and emergency situations. Communicate clearly and effectively with children, families, and staff.
