Job Title: Contract Afterschool Program Instructor

Position Type: Contract Position

Organization: Young Audiences of Houston

Position SummaryYoung Audiences of Houston is seeking experienced and engaging Afterschool Program Instructors to facilitate high-quality arts and educational programming for youth. In this role, you will work directly with students to provide enriching experiences aligned with program goals. We are committed to fostering a safe, inspiring environment, and successful candidates will be responsible for program implementation, classroom management, and maintaining professional standards while working on-site at partner facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program Delivery: Implement and facilitate engaging afterschool activities (e.g., arts, dance, academic enrichment) tailored to specific student and program goals.

  • Classroom Management: Create a supportive, inclusive, and safe environment for all participants.

  • Professional Conduct: Represent Young Audiences of Houston with professionalism. Adhere to all site-specific policies, including dress codes, conduct expectations, and safety/security protocols.

  • Administrative Compliance: Complete necessary documentation, maintain accurate lesson plans, and track attendance as required.

  • Communication: Maintain clear and timely communication with site coordinators and Young Audiences of Houston management.

Required Qualifications

  • Prior experience in teaching, arts instruction, or youth development.

  • Strong classroom management and facilitation skills.

  • Ability to adapt to diverse school and community settings.

  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Reliable transportation to and from various school sites.

Background Check & Vetting Requirements

This position involves direct contact with students in licensed/regulated facilities. As a requirement of employment and site access, candidates must successfully pass a comprehensive vetting process, which includes:

  • Fingerprinting: Completion of a mandatory state and national criminal history record check (Fingerprint-based Applicant Clearinghouse of Texas - FACT).

  • Background Screening: Clearance through relevant state child care licensing agencies or local justice department background check systems.

  • Affidavits & Documentation: Completion of all required pre-employment affidavits, including notarized forms regarding criminal history and conduct.

  • Ongoing Compliance: Ability to adhere to strict privacy, safety, and security protocols as mandated by our partner institutions.

Note: Clearance is required prior to beginning any on-site work. Failure to pass the background check will result in the inability to fulfill the contract.
