Internship Type

Chapter Fundraising Intern

Duration and Time Commitment

Flexible. Spring through Summer

Hours and Compensation

15-20 hours/week

This is an unpaid position. Interns will receive a stipend of $500 monthly. Must be currently enrolled in a degree program and will receive college credit to be eligible for this internship.


Workplace Location: Greater Central New York

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) has chapters in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Chapters have no physical offices and all employees work remotely. Interns are required to have the flexibility/capacity to work remotely within their designated chapter territory. Interns may be required to attend in-person events, meetings, and other activities within their chapter territory.

Internship Overview

The AFSP Chapter Internship will provide students with hands-on experience working with a nationwide non-profit at the local chapter level. Interns will learn the operational functions of an AFSP chapter working on special events and programs. This will include working with staff, board members, committees and volunteers on planning and coordinating chapter activities outlined in yearly business plans. The internship will require the intern receive college credit for participation. Student will need to verify and confirm eligibility beforehand.

Job Description: AFSP Greater Central New York Chapter Fundraising Intern

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention GCNY Chapter is seeking enthusiastic individuals who are looking to gain experience and knowledge in nonprofit fundraising and event planning. Selected candidates will play a pivotal role in the success of our chapterโ€™s signature fundraising event, the Out of the Darkness Walks. Ideal candidates will have a passion for mental health and suicide prevention and commitment to our mission, to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide. Experience in peer-to-peer fundraising is a plus. Essential job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Sponsorship/Donor outreach and recruitment
  • Researching potential sponsorships
  • Corporate team recruitment and onboarding
  • Walker outreach and recruitment
  • Email marketing communication
  • Creating promotional assets i.e. social media graphics, flyer, etc.
  • Running reports and creating and updating tracking sheets

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to learn quickly, work independently, problem solve, and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong Social Media skills
  • Ability to travel across chapter territory as needed (mileage reimbursement)
  • Must be detail-oriented
  • Must be comfortable making phone calls on behalf of the organization
  • Professionally represent the AFSP brand with internal and external stakeholders
  • Display professionalism and quality customer service and delivery skills
  • Ability to deal with sensitive information with a high level of trust and confidentiality
  • Experience or basic knowledge of most Microsoft computer programs, including Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience working with Canva
  • Driverโ€™s License and access to a reliable vehicle, a plus
