What is an AFSIM job?

An AFSIM job typically involves working with the Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, and Modeling (AFSIM), a government-developed tool used for simulating military operations and systems. Professionals in this field create, analyze, and optimize combat simulations to support decision-making and strategy development. They often have backgrounds in engineering, computer science, or operations research and work for defense contractors, government agencies, or military organizations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Afsim position, and why are they important?

To thrive as an AFSim (Advanced Framework for Simulation Integration and Modeling) Analyst, you need a solid background in modeling and simulation, systems engineering, and experience with military or defense simulation environments. Familiarity with the AFSim platform, scripting languages such as Lua or Python, and relevant security clearances are typically required. Strong analytical skills, problem-solving ability, and effective communication help you collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and interpret complex data. These skills ensure you can create accurate, meaningful simulations that support decision-making and mission planning in defense contexts.

What are some typical projects or tasks that an AFSim Analyst might work on within a defense organization?

AFSim Analysts are often tasked with developing and running advanced simulations to model military scenarios, assess system performance, and evaluate the impact of new technologies or tactics. They may work on projects ranging from air combat modeling to integrated mission simulations, collaborating closely with engineers, scientists, and military planners. Daily responsibilities usually involve scenario scripting, data analysis, model development, and presenting findings to stakeholders. This role frequently requires adapting simulations to evolving mission needs, making it both dynamic and integral to strategic decision-making.

We are seeking an experienced AFSIM Mission-Level Modeling & Simulation Analyst to build, run, and evaluate highfidelity mission-level simulations using the Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, and Modeling (AFSIM). In this role, you'll accelerate your career while contributing as a key member of a multidisciplinary team providing essential modeling and simulation support to DoD programs, including platform assessments, operational scenario development, and mission effectiveness analysis. Become part of a collaborative, mission-focused engineering team located near Eglin AFB.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities of AFSIM Analyst

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams of engineers, analysts, and government stakeholders to translate operational requirements and program objectives into informed and relevant mission threads, effective AFSIM models, and analytical studies.

  • Develop and execute complex AFSIM-based mission-level scenarios to support analysis of military operations, platform performance, and system-of-systems effectiveness,

  • including scenario design, simulation execution, kill-chain evaluations, and assessment of results in operational contexts.

  • Perform post-processing, statistical analysis, and visualization of AFSIM simulation datasets to derive actionable insights and support data-driven decision-making.

  • Develop simulation-based study plans, run matrices, and analytical products to inform DoD program decisions and performance assessments.

  • Apply Verification, Validation, and Accreditation (VV&A) processes to ensure the credibility and reliability of AFSIM models and results.

  • Prepare and deliver technical briefings, reports, and presentations on modeling results to program offices, senior leadership, and other stakeholders.

  • Support documentation of models, scenarios, methodologies, and findings to facilitate knowledge transfer and program oversight.

  • Stay current with AFSIM capabilities, DoD modeling & simulation best practices, and emerging operational concepts to deliver innovative analytical solutions.
