What is a Senior AFSim and what do they do?

A Senior AFSim is a professional who specializes in using the Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, and Modeling (AFSim), a government-developed software tool used primarily for modeling and simulating military systems and operations. Senior AFSim specialists design, implement, and analyze complex simulation scenarios to support decision-making, research, and training within defense and aerospace sectors. They often lead teams, develop new simulation capabilities, and ensure the accuracy and relevance of simulation results. Their expertise helps organizations assess system performance, operational concepts, and mission effectiveness in a virtual environment.

What are common collaboration dynamics for a Senior AFSim specialist working on multidisciplinary modeling and simulation projects?

Senior AFSim specialists frequently collaborate with software engineers, systems engineers, and subject matter experts to develop, test, and validate advanced simulation models. Effective communication is essential, as the role often requires translating technical simulation requirements into actionable tasks and integrating feedback from various stakeholders. You may also mentor junior team members and coordinate with project managers to ensure deliverables align with broader project goals. These collaborative efforts help ensure simulations are both technically robust and operationally relevant.

What is the difference between Senior Afsim vs Afsim?

AspectSenior AfsimAfsim
CertificationsTypically requires advanced certifications or extensive experience in simulation and modelingEntry to mid-level certifications in simulation or related fields
Work EnvironmentLeads complex simulation projects, supervises teams, and collaborates with military and defense agenciesSupports simulation tasks, assists in project execution, and performs technical duties

Description
Are you searching for an opportunity to apply your AFSIM modeling and simulation experience to analyze interesting and complex problems with innovative software and computing capabilities?
If so, we're looking for someone like you to join the Air Combat and Strike Mission Analysis Group!
We are seeking a Senior AFSIM Analyst to help us evaluate and define solutions to enable the U.S. military to conduct strike warfare and air combat operations in complex operational environments. You'll be joining a hardworking team that supports a wide-range of military sponsors and analyzes critical and challenging technical problems. We strive to foster an environment of experimentation and creativity to address some of our country's most important challenges.
We pride ourselves on our intellectual integrity, and our ability to deliver outstanding and unbiased analysis products. Our team emphasizes personal improvement and growth over short-lived success.
As a Senior AFSIM Analyst you will...
  • Develop, evaluate, and analyze models and concepts of employment for ground breaking technologies such as advanced air platforms, strike weapons, and integrated multi-domain effects.
  • Collaborate with our software development teams on improving our customized tools, including designing efficient representations for large datasets, testing accurate interactions across interdependent algorithms, and automating production analysis pipelines.
  • Work with a team of analysts who will benefit from your experience, and senior engineers with whom you will guide the direction of analysis.
  • Have opportunities to engage in independent research projects that encourage creative solutions and reward independent initiative.

Qualifications
You will meet our minimum qualification for the job if you...
  • Have a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or related area.
  • Have demonstrated excellence working with AFSIM performing modeling, simulation, and analysis.
  • Have knowledge in Air or Strike Warfare domains.
  • Can work effectively in a highly collaborative environment and communicate sophisticated ideas directly with government civilians, military officers, and other contractors.
  • Have strong scripting and programming skills with any of the following languages: Python, MATLAB, C/C++, or JAVA
  • Are able to obtain the associated required Special Access Program (SAP) level access.
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...
  • Have a Master's or PhD degree in a technical field listed above.
  • Have experience using other mission-level analysis tools such as Brawler, Suppressor, JIMM, or EADSIM.
  • Have experience leading analysis teams performing mission-level analysis and providing mentoring and training to staff members.
  • Have an active Top-Secret security clearance.
