Aesthetics Assistant information

What is an aesthetics assistant?

Aesthetics Assistants are professionals who support licensed aesthetic practitioners, such as dermatologists or cosmetic nurses, in providing skincare and beauty treatments. They help with preparing treatment rooms, sterilizing equipment, greeting and educating clients, and sometimes assisting during procedures. Their role may also include administrative tasks like scheduling appointments and managing patient records. While they don’t perform advanced procedures, they are vital in ensuring the smooth and safe operation of aesthetic clinics and spas.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an aesthetics assistant?

To thrive as an Aesthetics Assistant, you need a background in skincare or cosmetology, often supported by relevant certifications or licensure depending on state regulations. Familiarity with clinical tools, aesthetic devices (such as lasers or microdermabrasion machines), and appointment scheduling software is commonly required. Excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and a professional demeanor help build patient trust and ensure high-quality service. These skills are crucial for maintaining patient safety, delivering effective treatments, and supporting the overall success of the aesthetics practice.

What are some common challenges faced by an aesthetics assistant and how can they be overcome?

Aesthetics Assistants often work in fast-paced environments where they must juggle multiple tasks such as preparing treatment rooms, assisting practitioners, and managing patient schedules. One common challenge is maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organization while delivering excellent client care under time constraints. Building strong communication skills and staying proactive with time management can help overcome these hurdles. Additionally, staying updated on the latest procedures and safety protocols ensures that assistants remain valuable team members and provide a positive experience for clients.

Job description

Maeva Aesthetics is a premier aesthetics clinic located in Austin, Texas. We believe that skincare and medical aesthetics should be a personalized journey rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. Our mission is to deliver natural-looking results through a passionate team of experts who go above and beyond to create exceptional experiences for all our clients.
As the Aesthetic Assistant, you're the reason our providers can move through the day without missing a beat. You prep the rooms, prep the patient, and keep the clinical side of the visit running clean and on time.
Your day
  • Open. Prep rooms each morning - trays, tools, everything set before the first patient.
  • Prep. Prep syringes and bruise creams ahead of visits. Prep charts before patients arrive, log product usage as it's used, and help with charting more broadly when there's time.
  • Support the visit. Help keep time and numbing on track so the schedule doesn't slip.
  • Communicate. Handle patient messages on pre- and post-care, send treatment plans, and call in scripts.
  • Systems & stock. Set up new patient profiles in our internal system. Keep consumables inventoried and stocked.
  • Support the team. Hop in to support Front Desk or operational tasks as needed.

Not in this role: injecting or performing treatments. Our licensed Providers handle those; you make sure they never have to think about anything else.
Who does well here
  • Calm under pressure. Rooms run behind, patients get nervous - none of that rattles you
  • Detail-oriented. In this role, a missed step isn't just sloppy, it matters.
  • Comfortable in a clinical setting. Needles, sharps, skin - none of it fazes you.
  • Follow protocol. You do it the Maeva way, and you ask instead of guessing.
  • Discreet. Patient privacy, always, without being told twice.
  • Brand representative. How you carry yourself in the room is part of the patient's experience, not separate from it.

What we need
  • Passionate about the Maeva brand and mission
  • Prior experience as a medical assistant in a procedural environment preferred
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA or RMA) preferred, not required
  • Comfortable being on your feet

Benefits
Schedule & Compensation
  • Monday-Friday, 9-5pm
  • $23-25 / hour
  • Full-time benefit eligible (Medical, Dental, Vision)
