How much do aerospace manufacturing jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 12, 2026, the average hourly pay for aerospace manufacturing in the United States is $20.54, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $16.35 and $21.15 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Who are the big 4 in aerospace?

The Big 4 in aerospace typically refer to Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, and Northrop Grumman, which are the largest aerospace and defense contractors globally. These companies design, manufacture, and maintain aircraft, spacecraft, and defense systems, often requiring specialized skills and certifications for aerospace manufacturing roles.

What is aerospace manufacturing?

Aerospace manufacturing is the process of designing, building, and assembling aircraft, spacecraft, satellites, and related parts and systems. This industry involves working with advanced materials and technologies to produce components that meet strict safety and performance standards. Aerospace manufacturing includes everything from small precision components to entire airplanes and spacecraft. It is a highly regulated field focused on innovation, quality, and reliability to ensure the safety of passengers, crew, and cargo.

Is aerospace manufacturing in demand?

Aerospace manufacturing is currently in demand due to ongoing advancements in aircraft, spacecraft, and defense systems, leading to a need for skilled workers in areas such as assembly, machining, and quality control. The industry often requires knowledge of CAD software and certifications like OSHA or FAA standards, and employment opportunities are expected to grow as technology and defense spending increase.

What is the difference between Aerospace Manufacturing vs Aerospace Engineering?

AspectAerospace ManufacturingAerospace Engineering
Required CredentialsTypically requires technical certifications, associate degrees, or vocational trainingRequires a bachelor's degree or higher in aerospace engineering or related fields
Work EnvironmentFactories, assembly lines, production facilitiesDesign labs, research facilities, offices
Employer & Industry UsageManufacturers, production plants, aerospace companiesDesign firms, research institutions, aerospace companies
Common Search & Comparison IntentUnderstanding production roles, job requirements, and skillsUnderstanding design, development, and technical aspects

While both roles are essential in the aerospace industry, Aerospace Manufacturing focuses on assembling and producing aircraft and spacecraft components, often requiring technical certifications and hands-on skills. Aerospace Engineering involves designing and developing aerospace systems, requiring higher education and engineering expertise. Both careers are vital but differ in responsibilities, work environment, and educational requirements.

What does aerospace manufacturing do?

Aerospace manufacturing involves designing, producing, and assembling aircraft, spacecraft, and related components. Workers in this field use precision tools, follow strict safety standards, and often require specialized certifications to ensure high-quality, reliable products for aviation and space exploration.

Do aerospace engineers make 800k a year?

Aerospace engineers typically earn much less than 800,000 dollars annually. The highest salaries for experienced aerospace engineers in senior roles or management can reach around 150,000 to 200,000 dollars per year, depending on the industry, location, and level of experience. Earning 800,000 dollars a year is extremely rare and usually involves executive or ownership positions rather than standard engineering roles.

What are some common challenges faced in aerospace manufacturing, and how do teams typically address them?

Aerospace manufacturing professionals often encounter challenges such as strict adherence to quality standards, complex regulatory requirements, and the need for precise coordination across multidisciplinary teams. To address these, companies implement rigorous quality control systems, continuous training, and regular communication between engineering, production, and quality assurance departments. Collaboration and attention to detail are crucial, and employees are encouraged to participate in problem-solving initiatives and process improvement programs to maintain the high safety and performance standards required in the industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Aerospace Manufacturing, and why are they important?

To excel in Aerospace Manufacturing, a strong background in mechanical engineering principles, quality control, and manufacturing processes is essential, often supported by a relevant degree or technical certification. Familiarity with CAD software, CNC machinery, and industry standards such as AS9100 is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective teamwork are vital soft skills for this role. These skills ensure the production of high-quality, safe, and reliable aerospace components in a highly regulated environment.
