Job Type: Full-Time

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Aerospace & Defense Manufacturing Engineer to support advanced aerospace and defense manufacturing programs in Troy, MI. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in manufacturing engineering, process optimization, tooling design, PFMEA, CAD, and aerospace quality systems while working closely with cross-functional engineering and production teams.

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in the Aerospace & Defense industry.

  • 7–10 years of manufacturing/production engineering experience, preferably in aerospace or precision manufacturing.

  • Strong expertise in 2D drafting and 3D CAD (SOLIDWORKS, CATIA, Creo, NX, Altium, or similar).

  • Experience creating and updating engineering drawings, shop aids, tooling, and detail drawings.

  • Hands-on experience with:

    • GD&T

    • PFMEA

    • Work Instructions

    • Manufacturing Routings

    • ERP/MES systems

  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing tools including:

    • Value Stream Mapping (VSM)

    • TAKT Time

    • Cycle Time Analysis

    • Cell Layout Optimization

  • Experience with tooling design and reverse engineering of legacy parts.

  • Comfortable working on the production floor with manufacturing, quality, and engineering teams.

  • Experience with aerospace integrated systems involving mechanical, electrical, and software integration.

  • Experience with Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP) and First Article Inspection (FAI).

  • Familiarity with AS9100 quality systems.

  • Experience with packaging specifications for purchased components.

  • Exposure to UAV/Unmanned Systems is a plus.

  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt is preferred.

  • Exposure to MBSE is a plus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Document current manufacturing operations and work instructions.

  • Develop Process FMEA (PFMEA).

  • Design new tooling and reverse engineer existing tooling/parts.

  • Create and update shop aid drawings and manufacturing work instructions.

  • Update manufacturing routings and work orders.

  • Perform TAKT time and cycle time analysis.

  • Conduct Value Stream Mapping (VSM).

  • Improve manufacturing flow, identify bottlenecks, and optimize production layouts.

  • Develop and update Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP).

  • Define packaging specifications for purchased materials.

  • Support engineering, manufacturing, and quality release processes.

  • Collaborate with global engineering and delivery teams to drive continuous improvement.

Preferred Skills
  • Strong engineering project experience.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Experience working with geographically distributed teams.

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative environment.
