A Day in Life of a Mechanical Engineer at Hanson
Here's a snapshot of what you would do in this role:
  • Design, analyze, and optimize HVAC systems for government, commercial, and industrial buildings, ensuring energy efficiency and compliance with relevant codes and standards.
  • Develop detailed plans, specifications, and drawings for HVAC and plumbing systems, including ductwork, piping layouts, equipment selection, and sizing calculations.
  • Conduct site visits to assess existing HVAC and plumbing systems, identify deficiencies, and propose cost-effective solutions for upgrades or replacements.
  • Perform comprehensive facilities condition assessments on government and/or military facilities, focusing on HVAC and plumbing systems.
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other stakeholders to integrate mechanical systems into building designs and renovations.
  • Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software and simulation tools to model and simulate HVAC and plumbing systems.
  • Prepare written reports and presentations summarizing findings, recommendations, and project updates for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide high-level cost estimates, utilizing industry-standard cost estimation databases.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes related to HVAC and plumbing.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time.

What We're Looking For
We feel the following qualifications would set you up for success in this role:
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 7 years in the consulting professional services industry, in the Mechanical Engineering Discipline
  • Licensure as a professional engineer.

Skills:
  • Specific technical experience with the preparation of HVAC and plumbing construction drawings, specifications, submittals review and construction administration.
  • Experience performing facilities condition assessments for HVAC and plumbing systems.
  • Strong understanding of building codes, standards, and regulations related to mechanical systems (e.g., ASHRAE, International Mechanical Code).
  • Familiarity with Microsoftยฎ Office, AutoCAD, and REVIT software.
  • Ability to collaborate on multiple projects concurrently.
  • Ability to assume task leadership responsibilities by guiding CAD/Revit technicians and other Engineers/Designers.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with energy analysis software such as ComCheck and FLACOM EnergyGauge, and load calculation software, such as Trane Trace 700 or equivalent software.
  • A candidate having the ability to obtain a Top-Secret clearance is preferred but not required.

The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $145,000 per year. This position may also be eligible for annual discretionary bonuses.
