The Team

As part of theย Engineering organization,ย Powerย Conversionย develops the technologies that efficiently transform reactor-generated heat into usable electricalย power. The team focuses on maximizing system performance, reliability, and commercial viability.

The Roleย 

Valar Atomics is seeking a turbomachinery aerodynamics engineer to join the turbomachinery team and advance power generation capability. In this role,ย you'llย be responsible forย the aerodynamic design ofย cutting-edgeย turbomachinery for power generation.ย You'llย be working withย cross-functionalย team members to define a manufacturable,ย high efficiency, robust design.ย As an early hire in turbomachinery, you will be able to directly influence design decisions on the system architecture.ย 

Key Responsibilitiesย 

  • Conductย meanlineย and streamline analysis of turbomachinery designsย 
  • Analyze turbomachinery components usingย 3D CFDย 
  • Conduct trade studies of turbomachinery configurations including stage count, shrouded/unshrouded designs, axial/radial configurationsย 

Basic Qualificationsย 

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanicalย or Aerospaceย Engineeringย 
  • Experience analyzing turbomachinery (Turbines, Compressors, Turbochargers, Turboexpanders, Blowers, Turbopumps, etc.)ย 
  • Experience withย meanlineย and streamline analysis of turbomachineryย 
  • Experience with 3D CFD simulations of turbomachineryย 

Preferred Skills and Experienceย 

  • Master's degree in Mechanicalย or Aerospaceย Engineeringย ย 
  • Knowledge of manufacturing, postprocessing, assembly, inspection procedures for turbomachineryย 
  • Experience with supercritical C02ย 
  • Experience with unsteady simulations of turbomachineryย 
  • Experience with thermodynamic cycle analysisย 
  • Experience with commercially available turbomachinery design packages (AxStream, Concepts NREC, NPSS OTAC)ย
