Aero Simulation information

What is aero simulation?

Aero Simulation refers to the use of computer-based models and software to replicate the behavior of aircraft and aerospace systems in various flight conditions. These simulations are used for pilot training, engineering design, testing, and research purposes. By creating realistic scenarios, Aero Simulation helps improve safety, efficiency, and performance in the aerospace industry. It allows users to analyze how aircraft respond to different situations without actual flight, saving time and resources.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in aero simulation roles?

Professionals in aero simulation often encounter challenges such as integrating complex data from various sources, maintaining simulation accuracy while optimizing performance, and keeping up with rapidly evolving technology. They may also need to collaborate closely with engineers, software developers, and end-users to ensure that simulations meet project requirements and regulatory standards. Staying adaptable and continuously building technical expertise are key to overcoming these challenges and succeeding in this dynamic field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an aero simulation engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Aero Simulation Engineer, you need a solid background in aerospace engineering, physics, and computer modeling, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with simulation software such as MATLAB/Simulink, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools, and programming languages like C++ or Python is often required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective teamwork are essential soft skills for excelling in this role. These skills are crucial for accurately modeling aerodynamic behaviors, ensuring system reliability, and supporting collaborative development in aerospace projects.

What is the difference between Aero Simulation vs Aero Test Engineer?

AspectAero SimulationAero Test Engineer
Required CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Aerospace Engineering, proficiency in simulation softwareBachelor's or Master's in Aerospace Engineering, experience with testing procedures
Work EnvironmentDesign labs, computer-based environments, simulation centersTest facilities, wind tunnels, flight test sites
Industry UsageUsed primarily in design, analysis, and virtual testing phasesInvolved in physical testing, validation, and real-world performance assessment

While both Aero Simulation and Aero Test Engineer roles are essential in aerospace development, Aero Simulation focuses on virtual modeling and analysis using software, whereas Aero Test Engineers conduct physical tests to validate designs. Both roles require aerospace engineering backgrounds but differ in work environment and specific responsibilities.

Job description

Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century's most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril's family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.
ABOUT THE JOB
Anduril is at the forefront of developing defense technologies which feature layered autonomy and can be produced at scale. To support our rapid development and deployment initiatives, our Anduril Mission Engineering Operations Analysts (AME OA) provide rigorous, data-driven analytical products to guide our business strategy, inform requirements, and investigate concepts of employment.
As an analyst, you will engage directly with internal and external stakeholders to translate their questions into physics-based analyses, often designing experiments using mission-level simulations. You will follow the scientific method and generate clear and compelling analytical artifacts with actionable conclusions. Your analyses will often accompany demonstration events to quantify exactly how Anduril technology delivers mission success to the warfighter.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Employ the scientific method to develop model-driven analysis (and often the models themselves)
  • Develop a deep understanding of the transformational value of Anduril's platform, autonomy, simulation, and perception products
  • Use our advanced internal M&S capabilities to give our analyses and asymmetric advantage over competitors
  • Use exceptional writing and verbal communication to translate complex analytical findings into clear and compelling summaries for both internal program teams and external customers

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 12+ years of experience in a relevant Science or Engineering field
  • Currently possesses and is able to maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
  • Proficiency and love of modeling and scripting languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB, Simulink)
  • Demonstrated experience in:
    • Platform MS&A - aero, fuel, and signature modeling
    • Payload MS&A - radar, EOIR, communications, or weapons payloads
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information in written, visual and spoken form to diverse audiences
  • A working knowledge of domains such as Offensive/Defensive Counter-Air (OCA/DCA), Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR), Suppression/Destruction of Enemy Air Defenses (SEAD/DEAD), Electronic Attack, or Long Range Fires

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 12+ years of experience in a relevant Science or Engineering field, or equivalent advanced academic experience (e.g., MS, Ph.D.)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret security clearance
  • 5+ years of hands-on AFSIM scripting experience (deeper experience highly valued)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and execute an Operations Analysis study from concept to completion, encompassing problem definition, research, model development, data analysis, and report generation
  • Signal processing experience- for example, track fusion and filtering techniques
  • Experience with RF propagation modeling, including communications, radar, and electronic warfare (EW) modeling
