Job description

Texas Local Media is seeking an experienced, results-driven General Manager to lead our Texas operations. This executive leadership role is responsible for overseeing multiple newspaper publications, office locations, department managers, and staff while driving revenue growth, operational excellence, and a culture of accountability. This position requires residency in Texas and the ability to travel throughout the state to support our publications, offices, and employees serving the Dallas, Austin, and Houston metropolitan areas, as well as numerous community newspapers in smaller Texas markets.

We are looking for a proven newspaper industry leader with extensive experience in publishing, operations, and team management. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who leads by example, develops high-performing teams, and consistently delivers results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide executive leadership for all Texas operations, including multiple offices, publications, and departments.
  • Oversee operations throughout the metropolitan areas, as well as numerous community newspapers serving small towns across Texas.
  • Assist and develop department managers, sales leaders, editorial, production, circulation, and administrative teams.
  • Oversee operational budgets, financial performance, expense management, and profitability.
  • Ensure efficient production, distribution, and publication schedules across all markets.
  • Recruit, mentor, and retain top talent while fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Ensure company policies, procedures, and performance standards are consistently followed.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on acquisitions, expansion opportunities, operational improvements, and strategic initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience in the newspaper or local media industry.
  • Demonstrated success managing multiple publications, departments, or regional operations.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience managing change while maintaining employee engagement and operational efficiency.
Travel Requirements

This position requires some travel throughout the Dallas, Austin, and Houston regions, as well as visits to our offices and publications serving smaller communities across Texas. The General Manager must be comfortable spending time in the field supporting staff, meeting with advertisers, strengthening community relationships, and ensuring operational excellence across all markets.
