What is an advertising executive?

Advertising Executives are professionals responsible for managing and overseeing advertising campaigns for clients or organizations. They work as liaisons between clients and creative teams, helping to develop strategies that effectively promote products or services. Their duties often include meeting with clients, coordinating market research, setting budgets, and ensuring campaigns are delivered on time and within scope. Advertising Executives need strong communication, organizational, and negotiation skills to succeed in this fast-paced industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an advertising executive, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Advertising Executive, you need a strong background in marketing strategy, client management, and campaign development, typically supported by a degree in marketing, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with digital advertising platforms, analytics tools, and CRM systems is essential for planning and measuring campaign effectiveness. Excellent communication, creativity, and leadership skills set standout professionals apart in managing teams and client relationships. These skills are critical for delivering impactful advertising solutions, meeting client goals, and driving business growth in a competitive industry.

What are some common challenges advertising executives face when managing multiple campaigns simultaneously?

Advertising Executives often juggle several campaigns at once, which requires exceptional organizational and time-management skills. Balancing competing deadlines, coordinating with creative and media teams, and ensuring client expectations are met can be challenging. Staying adaptable and communicating effectively across departments are key to handling shifting priorities and last-minute changes. Successful Advertising Executives often rely on strong project management tools and clear client communication to keep campaigns on track.

Job description

About Us

Legis1 (legis1.com) is an AI-driven news, data, and analytics platform covering Congress, lobbying, and the legislative process, serving Capitol Hill and the government affairs community. AllCiv (allciv.com) is our nonpartisan civic platform covering national, state, and local communities. Together, the two brands reach decision-makers and engaged citizens across the US.

The Role

We are hiring a quota-carrying, senior individual contributor to build and scale advertising and sponsorship revenue across the full portfolio — one mandate, two brands: Legis1 and AllCiv. You will own the full sales cycle: sourcing high-value advertisers, designing integrated media programs spanning digital, sponsored content, newsletters, events, and data-driven offerings, and closing deals that deliver measurable results.

Responsibilities

  • Source, qualify, and close net-new advertising and sponsorship revenue across Legis1 and AllCiv
  • Design integrated media programs aligned to client KPIs
  • Sell directly to senior stakeholders (CMOs, heads of public affairs, government relations, brand) and media agencies; lead negotiations through contract and close
  • Coordinate with marketing, product, and editorial teams on campaign delivery; own client outcomes, renewals, upsells, and cross-sells
  • Develop high-value verticals — government affairs, healthcare and life sciences, financial services, advocacy — and represent both brands at industry events
  • Feed market intelligence back into product, packaging, and go-to-market strategy

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of direct advertising or media sales experience (B2B preferred) with a track record of quota attainment on complex, multi-channel deals
  • Experience selling into government affairs/public policy/lobbying, healthcare/life sciences, financial services, or other regulated industries
  • Hunter profile: strong prospecting and industry connections, as well as ability to build and sell strategic media programs
  • Experience with email/newsletter, web, and mobile advertising
  • Existing advertiser and agency network strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce), forecasting, and pipeline hygiene; strong written communication and executive-level proposals
  • Preferred on-site in North Bethesda, MD; periodic travel for client meetings and events
  • Experience working with corporations that want to get their message in front of legislators, government leaders, and engaged voters.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary $95,000–$115,000 plus uncapped commissions. Paid comprehensive health insurance with dental and vision, 401(k) with company matching.
