Job description

About the Role Working within the Cougars Athletics and Recreation department, these are flexible positions whose work schedule is variable and may include an irregular schedule of not less than three (3) hours per shift and up to thirty-five (35) hours per week. These positions will end March 31, 2027. The Announcer is the in-venue voice of MRU Cougars games for either basketball, hockey, soccer or volleyball.

This high-energy role is responsible for creating an engaging and exciting atmosphere for fans by delivering clear, enthusiastic live announcements and playing music throughout the game. The announcer introduces starting lineups, announces goals or points, and all other key stats depending on the sport as well as provides important event information such as sponsor messages, intermission promotions, and safety protocols. The ideal candidate is confident on a microphone, has a dynamic speaking voice, can read the flow of a game, and knows how to hype up a crowd while remaining professional and accurate.

A strong understanding of basketball, hockey, soccer or volleyball is a major asset. Responsibilities Represent the Cougars positively as one of the voices of our events Bring consistent passion and energy to create a fun game day atmosphere Set-up, test and use various gameday technology; troubleshoot as required Sound-test and fine tune audio settings. Play appropriate music at the correct times based on the game atmosphere Memorize home team rosters (names, numbers and faces) Learn visiting team rosters (names, numbers) Follow daily run of show and script frameworks Be prepared with professional communication to fans for every situation that may occur Collaborate with Engagement & Event Assistants to deliver in-game promotions Ensure all requirements and regulations set-out by Canada West and U SPORTS are met and followed with the Game Day team Qualifications 6 - 12 months of related experience Passion for sports with a strong knowledge of basketball, hockey, soccer or volleyball Ability to work all shifts between Thursday - Sunday afternoons and evenings Outgoing and personable individual with a clear, energetic and dynamic voice Highly motivated individual who can work well independently under pressure Commitment to time management and punctuality Strong focus and attention to detail, ability to memorize and pronounce names properly Interest in and sporting event experiences Ability to lift items of up to 50lbs on an occasional basis Salary: $21.87 - $27.61 per hour Closing Date: Open until suitable candidates are found A resume should be submitted in one .pdf document
