Job description

GENERAL FUNCTION:
The role of the Adventure Program Specialist is to build strong campers through the development of a safe learning environment using the adventure based activities as a tool. Specifically, the Adventure Program Specialist is directly responsible for program planning, curriculum development, and implementation of all adventure based activities (Archery, Giant Swing or Zip Line). He/she must run this program with safety in the forefront and an understanding of the mission of the YMCA.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
This position requires a desire to work with children. The position requires an understanding and a commitment to the total effort of the YMCA and the principles upon which it is founded.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Management
-Maintain a program to meet/exceed YMCA policies
a. Coordinate Adventure-related programming
b. Ensure compliance with all Federal, State and Local laws
c. Uphold overall health and safety of each child enrolled in camp
d. Ensure that the programs are safe and maintains the highest safety standards at all times
-Attend to the proper maintenance and housekeeping of the camp
a. Maintain a setting that is welcoming and engaging, and meets the needs of the children
b. Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the Adventure Program area
c. maintain all Adventure supplies, equipment, and course elements
d. Monitor needs and usage of program equipment

Fiscal Management
-Complete end of summer inventory for assistance with supply order next summer
Additional Duties
-Administers approved first aid to children with minor injuries; responsible for reporting all accidents/ injuries and any child abuse/neglect to Supervisor.
-Reports for work on time prepared; adheres to Y policies and procedures.
-Communicates and cooperates with fellow staff members and with parents.
-Maintains group control and appropriate discipline; responsible for the safety and welfare of all assigned children
-Attend all training sessions and staff meetings as scheduled
-Perform duties as assigned by supervisor

EFFECT ON END RESULT:
Maintain positive image of the YMCA through effective programming and community relations. Assist in the development of an environment that participating children look forward to attending. Create a positive experience for self and others at the Y.
