Job Summary:

Serves as the subject matter expert and acts as a resource for the release of protected health information (PHI) to ensure that patient confidentiality is protected at all times. Processes release of information requests and coordinates timely responses to requests for patient information, as required by law. Applies substantial knowledge of the job and experience to complete a wide range of activities with varying difficulty. Works with sensitive and confidential information on a regular basis, often involving the interpretation of policies and procedures to guide use. Trains and reviews lower level staff work.

Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:

  • High School Education/GED or equivalent: Required
  • Associate's/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
  • Five years' Health Information Management/Healthcare experience: Preferred
  • Knowledge of Release of Information regulatory requirements: Required
  • Electronic Health Record and Datavant/Ciox HealthSource experience: Preferred

Licenses/Certifications:

  • AHIMA Release of Information Microcredential: Preferred

Essential Functions:

  • Validates and processes requests for release of information in accordance with hospital policies and state and federal regulations.
  • Meets minimum required productivity standards on a consistent basis. Audits work of other staff and trains new staff.
  • Uses experience with interpersonal skills to successfully answer phones, greet customers and resolve requests.
  • Works efficiently and successfully in a high paced work environment.
  • Utilizes organizational experience and skills to set priorities.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
