Role Description The Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) Administrator is responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, and optimization of imaging systems that support radiology, cardiology, and other clinical departments. This full-time, on-site role in Juneau, AK includes monitoring system performance, managing user access, coordinating upgrades and patches, and ensuring secure data storage and retrieval of medical images. The PACS Administrator collaborates with clinical staff, IT teams, and vendors to resolve technical issues, streamline workflows, and maintain compliance with regulatory and hospital policies. Day-to-day tasks include troubleshooting hardware and software problems, providing end-user training and support, and assisting with integration between PACS, EHR, and other hospital information systems. The role also involves participating in on-call support rotations and contributing to documentation of system configurations, procedures, and best practices.
Qualifications
  • Clinical imaging knowledge: familiarity with Radiology workflows, modalities, and DICOM standards; understanding of Cardiology imaging environments and related systems.
  • Systems and network expertise: strong System Administration skills in managing PACS servers, storage, and interfaces; ability to perform Troubleshooting of hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
  • User and application support: experience providing Technical Support to clinical and non-clinical users, including issue resolution, training, and workflow optimization.
  • Beneficial technical skills: knowledge of HL7 interfaces, EHR integration, data security and privacy practices (e.g., HIPAA), and vendor PACS platforms.
  • Education and experience: associate or bachelorโ€™s degree in information technology, healthcare informatics, or a related field; relevant experience in a healthcare setting or medical imaging environment preferred.
  • Core competencies: strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, effective written and verbal communication, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Professional credentials: relevant certifications in healthcare IT, imaging informatics, or system administration are an advantage.
