Job description

RN - Adult Subacute Psych Unit (BHP 5)
PRN, 7p-7:30a - nights
Summa Health System - Juve Behavioral Health Pavilion
Primary patient population: This floor is dedicated to adult patients with subacute behavioral health needs.
Unit Size: 16-bed unit; private rooms
Target Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:6 or 1:7 *subject to change based on census numbers and patient care needs
Highlights:
• Looking for nurses who are empathetic, compassionate, patient, and observant with a trauma-informed approach
• Working in our brand new, state-of-the-art Behavioral Health Pavilion, opened in January of 2023
• $5/hr shift differential for nights; $1/hr for weekends
• 12-month nurse residency program for new grads

Summary:
Guided by knowledge of the basic principles of nursing based on the biological, physical, and psycho-social sciences, utilizes judgment supported by evidence and nursing theory in the delivery of nursing care. Provides, coordinates and/or delegates nursing care and manages resources in the delivery of care for patients, the family of patients and the community, with the goal of attaining, maintaining and restoring optimum health.
Per Diem Requirements:
• Working a minimum of 24 hours in a four-week schedule period
• Inpatient, Behavioral Health, and Emergency Department staff must work at least 12 hours on a weekend, holiday, or hard-to-fill shift.
o Holidays include: New Year's, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas
o Hard-to-fill shifts include: Super bowl Sunday, President's Day, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Halloween, day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and New Year's Eve
• Surgical Services staff must meet scheduling requirements as set by unit director / ACNO
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Formal Education Required:
a. Associate's degree in Nursing (ADN) required, BSN preferred
b. Graduate of a program of professional nursing that is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)
c. Current license to practice registered nursing in the State of Ohio
2. Experience and Training Required:
a. One (1) year recent experience in the area of practice.
b. Additional related previous experience and/or preparation maybe required for specialty units.
3. Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
a. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
b. Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time
c. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range
d. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
e. Requires exposure to communicable disease, body fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other potentially hazardous conditions common to a clinical environment, such as risk of falls, strains, etc.
f. Maintains current Basic Life Support certification; All nurses new to critical care, telemetry, PACU, and ED must successfully complete Advanced Cardiac Life Support within the first six months and maintain current card. Experienced critical care RNs and RNs hired as per diems in critical care, telemetry, PACU, and ED are expected to have ACLS certification upon hire. If not credentialed, they must obtain ACLS certification within six weeks of hire.
4. Population Specific Competency:
a. Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect, dignity and diversity.
5. Level of Physical Demands:
a. Heavy: Exerts 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or ten to 20 pounds of force continuously to move objects.
