Job description

The Rigger "A" properly fastens loads to prepare them for moving, using hand and power tools in order to meet industry & company regulated rules, policies and procedures. The Rigger "A" attaches pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, using bolts and clamps, and controls movement of heavy equipment. The Rigger "A" holds a 3rd party accredited certification (NCCER/NCCCO) and reports to the Dispatcher or Project Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Inspect rigging to ensure safety and reliability before engaging in hoisting or lifting
  • Aligns, levels and anchors cranes and equipment
  • Identify lift points
  • Assembles and installs supporting structures, rigging, hoist and pulling gear
  • Identify & attach rigging with basic knowledge of hitch configuration, capabilities & basic knots; attach load to rigging to provide support or prepare for moving using hand and power tools
  • Connects pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures, with bolts, shackles and clamps
  • Cleans and dresses machine and surfaces of component parts
  • Controls movements of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces
  • Dismantles, maintains and stores rigging equipment
  • Manipulates rigging lines, hoist, to move or support materials, steel, concrete, etc.
  • Signals or gives verbal directions to workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety or workers and materials
  • Understanding of math applications; weights, balance & measurements
  • Some travel required

Nationally accredited, third-party certification (NCCER, NCCCO)

WORK ENVIROMENT

The work environment characteristics listed below are representative of those that must be met by the Rigger "A" to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Regularly required to walk, sit, talk, and hear. The employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; regularly required to climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • The employee may regularly lift, push, pull and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Daily, weekly yard walks as needed for equipment verification, key measurements, axle loads, weighing may be required of this position
  • May be required to wear respirator occasionally
  • May be asked to perform function in or near a nuclear power plant, petrochemical plant or other active facility
