Grifols Laboratory Solutions in San Marcos, TX is seeking a Senior Manager, Lab Testing. The Senior Manager, Lab Testing manages the day-to-day operations of the lab to ensure optimal laboratory performance and compliance with current requirements of regulatory and accrediting agencies. Provide overall technical leadership, expertise, and support to the organization in the areas of validation, laboratory instrumentation and technologies. Develops, oversees and maintains a validated production environment. May lead project teams on business and technical projects. Act as a technical expert on at least one area of knowledge relevant to the laboratory (molecular / IRL / other).
To qualify for this role, individuals must have one of the following requirements: MD with certification in blood banking/transfusion medicine, SBB(ASCP), CHS(ABHI) or advanced degree (PhD preferred) in related science (biology, chemistry, genomics). Along with eight years of experience in a molecular testing laboratory; including a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience.
Primary responsibilities for role:
  • Interviews and hires new employees, maintains adequate staffing, reviews and approves employee timecards and request for time-off
  • Trains new employees, performs competency assessment and monitors staff performance
  • Evaluates and counsels personnel, makes recommendations regarding terminating, promoting/demoting, and salary changes for personnel
  • Manages schedules to meet laboratory workload demands, evaluates laboratory processes and makes recommendations to maximize efficiency and productivity
  • Facilitates the adoption of new procedures by developing, writing and implementing standard operating procedures (SOPs) as they pertain to the department
  • Writes equipment, assay and processes validation protocols identifying critical control points; manages the execution of validation protocols
  • Ensures strict adherence to SOPs, regulatory requirements and company policies
  • Assesses laboratory equipment needs, oversees proper inventory of laboratory reagents/supplies and orders as needed to maintain productivity
  • Resolves deviations, performs investigations, root-cause analysis, and trouble-shoots assay or equipment failures
  • Actively participates in lab management and training programs
  • Act as a delegate to the Laboratory Director on many day to day activities.
  • Act as a technical expert on at least one area of knowledge relevant to the laboratory (molecular / IRL / other)
  • Maintains technical competency by attendance at continuing education events
