Job description

Summary The Part-Time Adult Program Coordinator supports Chester County Library by planning, implementing, and evaluating high-quality programs for adult community members. Working with the library management team and staff, the Adult Program Coordinator develops educational, cultural, and recreational programs that meet community needs. Key responsibilities include coordinating adult programs, introducing speakers, providing on-site program support, and managing the adult programming budget.

The Adult Program Coordinator maintains program statistics, prepares evaluation reports, manages instructor clearances and ensures accurate documentation. The role also involves building partnerships with community organizations, service agencies, and contracted performers to expand program offerings. Additional duties include negotiating and scheduling contracted services, creating thematic program units, and assisting with special events and Chester County Library initiatives.

The Adult Program Coordinator must work collaboratively across departments, demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills, and adapt to shifting priorities. The position requires the ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently and as part of a team, and provide excellent customer service while representing the library in a professional and welcoming manner. All employees of the Chester County Library are considered mandated reporters of suspected child abuse under the Child Protective Services Law (Title 23 Pa.

C.S.A. Chapter 63). Essential Duties Plan, implement, promote and evaluate programs that will serve the needs of adults of all ages

Attend programs, including the introduction of speakers, to audiences. Administer program budget. Develop relationships with outside service agencies, performance contractors, and professional organizations as partners in developing and offering programs.

Work cooperatively with library management, staff, and organizational partners. Negotiate and schedule contracted program services. Provide a variety of thematic program units, along with supporting materials and resources.

Maintain and track statistical program data and prepare reports for evaluation. Perform other duties, tasks, and special projects, as required. Qualifications/Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

One or more years of job-related experience Ability to work independently or as part of a team to complete objectives. Strong planning, organizational, and coordination skills. Strong interpersonal skills with good written and verbal communication.

Strong customer service skills. Effective negotiation skills Ability to work within deadlines and reprioritize tasks accordingly. Ability to use general office machinery (fax machines, copy machines, etc.)

Ability to track data and prepare reports. Ability to work cooperatively in and across organizations with all types of individuals. Strong time management skills with an ability to plan and implement programs Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Library Science, Media, Communications, or another job-related field. Two years of job-related experience in a position with increasing responsibilities. Working knowledge of Library Core Values and Bill of Rights.

Working knowledge of Library Strategic Plan, Goals and Objectives. Working knowledge of Library policies and procedures. Working knowledge of County of Chester policies and procedures.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have: Basic Office Suite Skills, (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Explorer). Intermediate Outlook Skills (email and calendar) Some skill and experience in Microsoft Access and Publisher, or equivalent, is preferred.

Intermediate experience with virtual meeting software/platforms (Ex. Zoom, Teams, Webex) Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit; work office machinery; and talk or hear. Occasionally, the employee will need to stand; walk; climb stairs; push items weighing approximately 75 pounds; lift items weighing approximately 20 pounds; carry items weighing approximately 20 pounds for a distance of approximately 25 feet; and drive a car.

On rare occasions, the employee will need to reach above shoulders; bend at the waist or work while bent at the waist; kneel, stoop, crouch or squat; lift items; and taste or smell. The specific vision requirement for this position is: Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less) in order to work at a personal computer for extended periods of time. Distance vision (as required for driving) Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Work will be performed in an office environment approximately 95% of the time. Will need to work in all weather conditions at scheduled outside events. Other: Ability to work extended hours, as necessary, and occasional evenings and weekends A valid Pennsylvania driver's license is required.
