Instructor Qualifications

Instructors in the area of Developmental Education must meet one of the following requirements:

• Master's Degree in an appropriate educational field (for example, special/ developmental/ adult education, reading, writing, math, or English)

• Experience working with underprepared students (DE Math or English)

OR

• Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate educational field (for example, special/ developmental/ adult education, reading, writing, or English)

• Three years equivalent full-time teaching experience in reading, writing, or English within grade 9 through adult (DE English)

OR

• Bachelor's Degree in Math, Math Education, or an appropriate educational field (for example, special/ developmental/ adult education) with a math emphasis

• Three years equivalent full-time teaching experience in mathematics within grade 6 through adult (DE Math)

These positions are included in the bargaining agreement between Portland Community College and the Portland Community College Faculty Federation Employees.

Hourly rates are determine based upon the type of course taught (Lecture, Lab, or Lecture/Lab).
