Job description

POSITION PURPOSE
Coordinate, develop and implement the operation of The Helms Academy (High School Diploma) by providing leadership, support and assistance to the students by maintaining a comfortable and effective learning environment. Administers diagnostic, competency and proficiency tests; monitors attendance and performance, track academic progress, coordinates student schedules; provides counseling and referrals to social services; documents academic credits earned; conduct orientation meetings for new students and design workshop sessions for all students to meet their academic potential. MUST BE WILLING TO TRAVEL TO HELMS ACADEMY LOCATIONS IN NEW JERSEY AND PHILADELPHIA.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
  1. Responsible to record and maintain data and progress of students in the Goodwills case management system (GoodTraks), the Adult Education skills software (GradPoint) and all student files. Supplement student case records with documentation as necessary.
  2. Provide academic and social assistance and support to students when needed.
  3. Prepare various reports and present findings.
  4. Meet on a one-to-one or group to review the student progress towards their desired goals.
  5. Offer a safe space for the student to share their academic worries and concerns.
  6. Support the student to make an Action Plan outlining their motivation and goals.
  7. Monitor student progress and activity throughout the duration of assigned student schedules, offering supportive assistance and guidance to the students when needed.
  8. Act as coach to ensure attendance, completion and progress in coursework.
  9. Market and recruit students to participate in training at Helms Academy campuses.
  10. Assists in the development of Helms Academy goals and objectives.
  11. Recommends and assists in developing and maintaining policies and procedures.
  12. Supervise the maintenance and confidentiality of school records.
  13. Review student discipline issues and situations by acting as mediator with teachers, students, campus supervisors and administration.
  14. Represent the Helms Academy as a member of the community and other Adult Literacy committees and councils. Travel around the territory to attend meetings as appropriate.
  15. Provide instruction in various adult learning methods and mediums as needed
  16. Provide supervision and motivation to students enrolled in each skills program.
  17. Team player with a positive attitude and ability to provide conflict resolution skills.
  18. Act as a positive role model for employees, trainees, and customers in all aspects of professional performance.
  19. Interact courteously with other employees of Goodwill and of businesses for which Goodwill provides services.
  20. Maintains a high degree of confidentiality, accuracy, and a professional work environment.
  21. Follow all Goodwill policies and safety procedures. Must possess professional etiquette.
  22. Regular attendance is required.
  23. All other duties as assigned.

  4. Thorough knowledge of adult education principles, personnel supervision, curriculum development, program evaluation techniques, and computer use.
  5. Able to plan and implement instructional programs appropriate to adult learners, and the ability to relate to students of various ages, ethnic backgrounds, and cognitive abilities.
  6. Must possess professional telephone skills and manners.
  7. Flexibility to cover other areas of Goodwill when needed.
  8. Available to work flexible schedule to include nights, weekends, and occasional long hours.
  9. Self-starter with excellent anticipation skills, follow up, dependability, and sense of urgency about getting results.
  10. Ability to engage in prolonged sitting, standing and/or walking.
  11. Ability to work well under pressure, adapt to unexpected events, prioritize and multitask in a deadline driven environment.
  12. Ability to lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 10 lbs. frequently with occasional periods of lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Bachelors Degree in Education or Business or Associates Degree with 3 5 years of program management experience.
