Job Summary
Reporting to the Associate Director of Admissions Operations, the Assistant Director of Admissions Operations provides leadership, oversight, and operational accountability for admissions processing and services at Lamar University. This position serves as an operational auditor of the admissions process, ensuring workflows are accurate, efficient, compliant, and aligned with institutional goals.
The Assistant Director is responsible for monitoring the effectiveness of daily operations, identifying trends, assessing risks, conducting audits, and recommending process improvements that enhance service, efficiency, and data integrity. This role requires a leader who is committed to learning all aspects of admissions operations, understanding the work of the staff they supervise, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
The Assistant Director provides leadership and support to admissions staff, utilizes data to inform decision-making, develops reporting mechanisms to evaluate performance and outcomes, and collaborates with stakeholders to ensure admissions operations remain adaptable and effective.
Essential Job Functions
  • Provides direct and indirect supervision, develops staff knowledge and skills, promotes accountability, collaboration, customer service, and continuous improvement across Admissions Operations.
  • Conducts routine and targeted audits of admissions records, workflows, processing decisions, system configurations, and compliance practices to ensure accuracy, consistency, and risk mitigation.
  • Evaluates workflows, identifies efficiencies, implements operational improvements, supports technology enhancements, and leads change management initiatives.
  • Develops and maintains reports and dashboards, analyzes trends and performance metrics, ensures data integrity, and uses data to support strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Oversees admissions processing functions within Slate, Banner, and related systems; resolves complex operational issues; ensures compliance with institutional, state, and federal requirements.
  • Collaborates with leadership and stakeholders to achieve departmental goals, supports institutional initiatives, and ensures high-quality service to students and campus partners.

Minimum and Desired Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 3 years of progressive admissions, and/or higher education experience required. Other relevant leadership experience may substitute.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or bachelor's degree with 3-5 years of experience in Admissions, Enrollment Management, Higher Education, or a related field.
  • Experience leading teams and managing operational processes.
  • Demonstrated success in conducting audits, evaluating workflows, and implementing process improvements.
  • Experience developing reports and utilizing data to support operational decision-making.
  • Strong understanding of student information systems and customer relationship management platforms.
  • Proficiency with Banner, Slate, Xtender, Axiom, and related technologies.
  • Ability to learn new processes quickly and effectively lead others through organizational change.

  • Protects the confidentiality and integrity of student records and institutional data.
Physical Requirements: With or without accommodation:
  • Works in an office environment for 6 to 8 hours.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment that does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements.
  • Occasional lifting, pushing, climbing, and pulling may be required.

Job Conditions:
  • Ability to travel and work a varied schedule with flexible hours including some weekends and evenings.
  • Enrollment in and successful completion of MGMT 3311 Leadership Essentials within the first six months of employment.
