The Counseling Program at Bluefield University is seeking highly organized candidates with an excellent academic track record for the position of graduate assistant. The Counseling Graduate Assistant position is a part-time position consisting of no more than 26 hours per week. This position reports directly to the Director of the Counseling program. Graduate assistants are responsible for assisting faculty and staff with various administrative tasks, organizing events, providing student support, and other duties as needed within the Counseling program and the School of Education and Social Sciences.

GRADUATE ASSISTANT REQUIREMENTS
  • Registered and enrolled in a graduate degree program at Bluefield University.
  • Maintain good academic standing in graduate degree program.
  • Must maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Experience in leadership roles is a plus.

The GA will follow all institutional policies and procedures of the Counseling Program and the School of Education and Social Sciences in addition to those in the Bluefield University staff handbook and other institutional policies/handbooks.


COMPENSATION

1. Hourly Pay -The GA in Counseling will receive hourly pay as agreed upon with supervisor. This is paid through the payroll system with the normal hourly pay cycle.

2. Graduate Level Tuition Waiver—Master of Arts in Counseling

The GA in Counseling will receive a tuition waiver for 9 credit hours of graduate coursework per semester (Fall, Spring, Summer). Any course load that exceeds 9 credit hours a semester per program guidelines must be paid by the GA. The GA must submit a GA Tuition Waiver Form (signed by the GA, Director of Counseling, Human Resources, and Financial Aid).

What is not covered:

Book fees, technology fees, lab fees, graduation fees, testing fees, etc. are not covered by the tuition waiver.

This position is subject to at least an annual evaluation based on the job duties, responsibilities, and functions set forth above.
