Admissions Application Readers are professionals who evaluate student applications for admission to educational institutions, such as colleges or universities. They review materials like transcripts, essays, recommendation letters, and test scores to assess each applicant's qualifications. Application readers use established criteria and sometimes holistic review processes to help determine which applicants are admitted. Their work is crucial in ensuring a fair and thorough selection process. Often, they work seasonally during peak admissions periods.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an admissions application reader?

To thrive as an Admissions Application Reader, you need a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and knowledge of academic standards, usually supported by a bachelor’s degree or higher. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), customer relationship management (CRM) software, and institutional guidelines is commonly required. Excellent written communication, impartiality, and time management are vital soft skills that help you evaluate applications fairly and efficiently. These competencies ensure a thorough, unbiased, and timely review process that upholds the institution’s admissions standards.

What challenges do admissions application readers face during peak application seasons?
