The Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery at theUniversity of Utah is seeking an academic Acute Care Surgeon tojoin our team as Associate Trauma Medical Director, with a plannedpathway to transition into the Trauma Medical Director (TMD)role.
This position offers an exceptional leadership opportunity within anationally recognized Level 1 Academic Trauma Center that valuescollaboration, innovation, and professional growth. The successfulcandidate will join a collegial team dedicated to advancingexcellence in clinical care across all facets of acute caresurgery.
Position Overview
The Associate Trauma Medical Director will work closely with theDivision Chief, and hospital leadership to strengthen trauma andacute care surgery operations, quality improvement, and performanceinitiatives. The duration in the Associate role and progression toTMD will depend on experience, demonstrated leadership, andalignment with divisional goals and culture.
This position is ideal for a motivated, forward-thinking surgeonwho seeks to blend clinical practice with program leadership andacademic engagement.
Qualifications
  • Board certified in General Surgery and Surgical CriticalCare
  • Fellowship training in Acute Care Surgery (two-year fellowshippreferred)
  • Minimum of three years of experience working in a busy Level 1Academic Trauma Center
  • Eligible for appointment at the Assistant or AssociateProfessor level
  • Demonstrated excellence in clinical care and teaching, with adefined area of academic contribution (e.g., quality improvement,education, research, or administration)
  • Strong administrative, leadership, and quality improvementskills
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinaryacademic environment
  • A visionary and inclusive leadership style that promotesteamwork and continuous improvement
