Job description

Safety and Security Infrastructure Technician

Helena Public Schools is seeking a skilled and service-oriented Safety and Security Infrastructure Technician to help ensure our schools remain safe, secure, and ready to support student learning every day.

This position plays a critical role in maintaining the district's physical security technology across 16 school and support sites serving approximately 9,600 students and staff. The successful candidate will administer and support the district's emergency notification, access control, and video surveillance systems while providing first-line technical support for the infrastructure that protects our schools.

Some of what you will do:

  • Administer and maintain the district's emergency alerting, intercom, access control, and video surveillance systems.

  • Configure users, devices, credentials, schedules, cameras, and security hardware.

  • Maintain application servers through software updates, operating system patching, backups, and firmware upgrades.

  • Monitor system health, storage capacity, licensing, and equipment lifecycle.

  • Troubleshoot security hardware, controllers, cameras, readers, and related low-voltage and network-connected devices.

  • Respond to system incidents, identify root causes, and coordinate with other technology staff when network or infrastructure support is required.

  • Support emergency drills, lockdown procedures, and testing of critical life-safety systems.

  • Create documentation, maintain inventory records, and develop end-user training materials.

  • Coordinate with Facilities, vendors, and Technology staff on installations, repairs, and improvement projects.

  • Assist with general technology support and department initiatives as workload permits.

The successful candidate will have: 

  • Associate's degree and four (4) years experience in safety and security administration, maintenance and technical support, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by the District.

  • Experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 (Teams, Word; Excel; Access; Outlook, Edge, PowerPoint).

  • Basic understanding of dry-contact, low-voltage circuitry, and wiring.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology or related field. 

  • Experience in K12 education environment.

  • Knowledge of student data privacy regulations, including FERPA.

  • A background in basic server maintenance and administration, door management systems, camera management systems, emergency notification systems, and other emergency workflows

Starting salary is $54,664-$61,849 per year depending on experience and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
