Summary

Assistant Plant Managers are responsible for assisting Plant Managers in managing and supervising all operations of his/her assigned ready mix plant(s).

Essential Responsibilities

  • Communicates all equipment and personnel issues to plant manager.
  • Communicates with shop personnel, be knowledgeable of their current projects or tasks, and reviews shop purchase orders.
  • Communicates and works in conjunction with quality control and sales employees.
  • Performs customer relations by communicating with customers regarding projects and pricing, problem solving, and attending social events.

EXCELLENCE

  • Loads ready mix trucks according to orders in Concrete Go. Ensures quality product and on time, safe delivery.
  • Assists plant manager with toolbox talks and safety meetings.
  • Reviews environmental book updates with plant manager and maintains the plant in compliance with all environmental laws.
  • Communicates all equipment and personnel issues to the plant manager.
  • Develops plans for efficient use of materials, machines, and employees.
  • Coordinates production, distribution, warehousing, and sales in accordance with policies, principles, and procedures established by the Company.
  • Operates in safe manner and abide with traffic laws, rules, and regulations of State/Federal Departments of Transportation (DOT), laws governing hazardous materials and placarding, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations and company rules/safety directives.
  • Assigns trucks and duties for employees under his/her supervision.
  • Schedules drivers, materials and work groups.
  • Secondary functions of ready mix driver, loader operator or general laborer.
  • Studies the ready mix plant's functions and maintenance requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

HUMAN POTENTIAL

  • Assists with the hiring process of new employees.
  • Reviews production costs and product quality and modifies production and inventory control programs to maintain and enhance profitable operation of the division.
  • Competent to batch, drive truck, or fill bins if needed at this plant location or another plant location.
  • Assume duties of absent plant manager at assigned location or other locations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

May have supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, applicable laws and the manager's direction. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Also directly supervises non-supervisory employees.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current Class B CDL (Commercial Driver's License) with airbrake endorsement
