What does a typical schedule look like for an adjunct professor and how flexible are the working hours?

Adjunct professors usually teach one or more courses per semester, with schedules that may include daytime, evening, or even weekend classes depending on the institution's needs. While some meetings or office hours are required, many duties like grading and prep work can be completed remotely and on your own time, offering considerable flexibility. However, adjuncts must still meet deadlines for grading, be available to students during set office hours, and attend occasional departmental meetings. This flexible arrangement makes the role appealing for professionals balancing other jobs or personal commitments, but it does require strong time-management skills. If you value flexibility and independent work, adjunct teaching can be a great fit.
