They provide instruction on coding systems such as ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS, preparing students for certification and employment in the healthcare industry. These instructors typically have real-world experience in medical coding and may hold certifications like CPC or CCS. Adjunct Medical Coding Instructors often manage a dynamic workload that includes preparing course materials, delivering lectures, and grading assignments, all while keeping up-to-date with the ever-evolving medical coding standards and certification requirements. They commonly allocate specific time each week for professional development, such as attending webinars or reviewing updates from organizations like AHIMA or AAPC. Collaboration with full-time faculty or program coordinators is also common, providing additional support and resources for both instructional and professional growth.
