Job Summary:


CPS Healthcare is looking to hire professional, dedicated, and caring RN and LPNs to join our team in providing health care to a incarcerated population at Androscoggin County Correctional Facility in Auburn, ME.


Correctional nurses are a critical part of the multidisciplinary team. They provide medical and mental health treatment and are responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing processes of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This position provides an excellent opportunity to engage in many different aspects of patient care utilizing critical thinking and nursing skills for chronic care management, addiction treatment, trauma/triage (to name a few) and have exposure to almost every specialty.


Responsibilities

  • Assess physical, psychological, and social dimensions of patients within the jail. This involves applying nursing knowledge in the assessment process, writing assessments, summarizing assessment data, and making triage decisions.
  • Plan an individual treatment program.
  • Utilize available treatment protocols as approved by the Medical Director.
  • Utilize referral process to appropriate providers as necessary within Medical Department.
  • Apply knowledge and utilize available resources in planning care and patient teaching
  • Consult as necessary with nurses, physicians, correctional officers, etc.
  • Implement individual treatment programs in the health care unit and, as necessary, in the housing units.
  • Intervene with proper technique, procedures, and safety precautions to meet the individual needs of the patients.
  • Implement mental health plan through the administering of medications in accordance with the physician's order, using proper techniques and procedures, including IV therapy and all other approved routes of administration.
  • Utilize pharmacology knowledge and available resources to include drug reaction and overdose in administering medication.
  • Implement mental health plan through obtaining diagnostic tests in accordance with physician's orders.
  • Communicates information to ancillary departments using established referral process.
  • Utilize knowledge and available resources for nutrition and therapeutic diets as established by the facility.
  • Work in collaboration with the nursing and medical teams to provide patients with care, education, and support.
  • Advise patients on health maintenance and disease prevention.
  • Maintain medical records.
  • Perform within the normal limits of state practice act, Code of Ethics for Nurses policies and procedures, facility policies and procedures and standards.

Schedule:

  • F/T 36-hour night position: Includes rotating weekends.
  • F/T 36-hour mixed shift: 24 hours on days and 12 hours on nights
  • 12-Hour Shiftsย 


Requirements

Qualifications & Education:ย 

  • Graduate from an accredited registered nursing program (Required)
  • BA degree (Preferred)
  • RN or LPN License in Maine (Required)ย 
  • 1 year nursing experience (Preferred)ย 
  • CPR Certification (Required)

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to stand; sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move over 35 pounds.
  • Regularly able to adequately perform CPR.
