JOB DESCRIPTION:

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Psychiatric-Mental Health RN (PMH-RN) with Centerstone Indiana supports evidence-based treatment for patient care needs in Outpatient Psychiatry, Addictions Treatment, Group Home, and Community-Based settings. The primary role for this position will be to provide nursing services in Outpatient Psychiatry and Addictions Treatment programs in our central Indiana region.

The Outpatient Psychiatry nurse prepares patients for the clinic appointment with the psychiatric physician or nurse practitioner, obtaining history and vital signs, ensuring ordered labs/procedure results are received, providing psychoeducation, and administration of prescribed injectable medications. This RN will also ensure timely telephone triage responses, lab result notifications, and medication prior authorization processes.

Nursing in our residential Addictions Treatment programs support residents and program staff to ensure that medication management, lab, and infection control procedures are adhered to promote safety and quality of care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides direct patient care under the supervision of a Nurse Practitioner (NP), and/or Physician, evaluates outcomes, consults with other health team members as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Performs head-to-toe assessment, under the supervision of a NP, and/or Physician, on all patients as per policy. This includes neonate, pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients and the general patient population.
  • Adequately assess and reassess pain.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
  • Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient's age.
  • Maintains current knowledge of medication and the correct administration based on age of the patient and his/her clinical condition.
  • Medical and surgical asepsis is carried out during treatments and special procedures.
  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to co-workers.
  • Demonstrates the ability to assist NP/Physicians with procedures and perform services requiring technical and manual skills under the direction of an NP and/or Physician.
  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patient and family.
  • Interacts professionally with patient and family and involves patient and family in patient education.
  • Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning; includes family in teaching, as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform treatments and provide services to level of licensure.
  • Meets current documentation standards and policies.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of lab requirements, requisitions.
  • Maintains established office policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement program, safety, environmental and infection prevention and control standards.
  • Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with office standards.
  • Answers telephone calls in a professional manner; refers patient problems to NP; schedules patient appointments.
  • Ensures an adequate stock of supplies, including vaccines.
  • Assists in cost containment through appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains a good working relationship with all co-workers.
  • Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Performs preventive maintenance.
  • Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
  • Response is appropriate to the patient in emergency or physically distressful situations.
