ABOUT CHRISTIAN THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY
Christian Theological Seminary (CTS) is a fully accredited ecumenical graduate school in Indianapolis, IN, related to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and serving the whole people of God. We welcome all faiths to explore/ engage in an intellectually rigorous, spiritually formative, and emotionally supportive education that equips our students to go out into the world and serve-whether in the church or the community. CTS also offers a robust counseling program that provides professional counseling preparation and spiritual/theological integration for those training to become mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, pastoral psychotherapists, and spiritual care specialists.
JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant or Associate Professor teaches graduate courses. Develops and organizes course curriculum and instructional materials. Conducts research in the field of expertise. Serves as academic advisor to students. Provides service to the department, school, or public through such activities as leading committees, and volunteer work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily.
- Full-time, tenure-track appointment with faculty rank
- Faculty workload consists of 15 credit hours per academic year. Faculty workload for this position consists of teaching 9 credits (three courses) per academic year and providing six hours of practicum supervision during the academic year, with the practicum supervision carrying a workload equivalency of 6 credits hours.
- Year-round (12 months) counseling supervision/field experience practicum
- Actively participate in the faculty's collaborative preparation for the program's CACREP accreditation
- Committee service
- Meaningful participation in a collaborative learning community in alignment with the Faculty Handbook
- Participate in outreach, open house events, admissions, and student recruitment activities
- Other assigned duties
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide mentoring for teaching associates, provide mentoring in all aspects of classroom management and instruction, including a role in evaluating student work.
- Responsible for training, coaching, managing personnel, planning, assigning, delegating, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining; addressing complaints and resolving problems for assigned teaching associates.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability the employee should have:
- Earned doctorate (PhD or equivalent) in Counseling Education & Supervision from a CACREP-accredited doctoral program
- Possession of an additional theology or religious studies degree (e.g., MDiv, MTS, DMin, or MA), with preparation in pastoral theology, is preferred
- Strong commitment to the integration of theological reflection and social justice principles with the healing wisdom found in counseling, psychology, and the social sciences
- Contribute a specialization in psychodynamic counseling, addiction counseling, trauma-informed leadership, family counseling, play therapy, and sexuality, gender, and culture
- Must currently hold a mental health counselor license in good standing (e.g., LMHC, LPC, LCPC, or LPCC) or an equivalent license in another U.S. state; be eligible for Indiana Clinical Mental Health Counselor licensure; and obtain at least a temporary Indiana Clinical Mental Health Counselor license before the appointment start date
- Must obtain full Indiana Clinical Mental Health Counselor licensure within one year of the appointment start date and maintain that licensure throughout employment
