Major Duties and Responsibilities
This position performs customer service and secretarial duties in support of department operations.
  • Answers department telephone lines and assists customers at counter.
  • Enters all commercial and subdivision plans; updates the plat book; logs Elevation Certificates.
  • Types letters for the Director; assists with payroll process; assists in the maintenance of department inventory.
  • Processes incoming and outgoing mail; maintains brochures on front table.
  • Operates a two-way radio to contact inspectors and survey crews.
  • Updates Code of Ordinances book; maintains files of resolutions and driveway permits.
  • Updates the employee roster.
  • Processes receipts; orders supplies from print shop.
  • Answers department phone lines and assists visitors at the counter as necessary.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of basic governmental accounting.
  • Knowledge of department payroll procedures.

Retirement Plan
The Columbus Consolidated Government offers a defined benefit retirement plan to eligible employees who work in General Government and in Public Safety. Employees in the pension plan must meet both age and years of service requirements to qualify for retirement. The current vesting period is ten years, and the current pension contribution rate is 8% of your gross salary.

The Columbus Consolidated Government offers a Deferred Compensation Plan or supplemental retirement plan that is tax deferred.
