Prairieview Activity Assistant
Rotating weekends, rotating holidays, 8:30 AM -5:00 PM
Tuesday, Wednesday, rotating Fridays and weekends, 5:00-8:00 PM
Hourly Rate - $15.50

Principle Accountabilities for Activity Assistant:
  • Assist in planning, developing, organizing, and implementing the activity programs at The Garlands of Barrington.
  • Provide recreation activities: reality orientation, current events, discussion groups, sensory stimulation, cultural activities, special entertainment, outings, special events and one-on-one visits.
  • Encourage residents to participate in programming by taking the time to personally invite those residents
  • Create an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the facility.
  • Participate in community outings off-campus.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records of residents' attendance, progress and response to activities in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Coordinate activities with other departments, and modify program content, times, and locations as necessary.
  • Distribute the monthly newsletter of activities to every resident, and is able to clearly answer any questions pertaining to the information contained in the newsletter.
  • Serve on, participate in, and attend various committees of The Garlands as appointed.
  • Conduct tours of the facility and explain available services to prospective families and residents.
  • Assist with components of move-ins as assigned and directed by the Administrator.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities for Activity Assistant:
  • Experience working with Alzheimer's & Dementia in assisted living or long term care environment
  • Proven customer service skills
  • Compassion, patience and understanding
  • Effective communication skills
  • Must complete 16 hours of Dementia Training within 1 year of hire.

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Must be able to tolerate long periods of walking and standing
  • Must be able to push customers in wheelchairs.
