Job description

Atlanta Center for Reproductive Medicine (ACRM) specializes in the treatment of infertility and other reproductive endocrinology 7disorders. As one of the largest centers in the metropolitan area treating infertility, for 27 years ACRM has provided care in Advanced Reproductive Technologies (ART), including in-vitro fertilization (IVF), pre-genetic diagnosis (PGD), and egg recipiency. The surgical nurse provides individualized nursing care to the surgical patient and is cross-trained in the roles of pre-op, surgical scrub, recovery room and circulator. This is a PRN position; most need for coverage on weekends.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Pre-op
• Reviews patient chart/plan of care
• Completes necessary consent forms
• Completes pre-op checklist
• Enters pertinent info to EMR system
• Performs pre-op/post op teaching
• Completes necessary lab work/IV therapy/treatments as indicated by MD/Plan of care
• Keeps MD and Anesthesia provider appraised of patient status
• Maintains clean work area/restocks supplies where needed
• Performs pre/post op calls
• Assists in other areas where needed
Surgical Scrub
• Performs necessary quality control checks
• Prepares OR for surgical case
• Assists in proper patient positioning
• Assists MD with procedure while maintaining sterile technique
• Performs abdominal U/S guidance for embryo transfers
• Collects and appropriately handles specimens
• Cleans and processes instruments
• Maintains, restocks OR environment
• Assists in other areas where needed
Recovery Room
• RR/PACU receives patient report from Anesthesia Provider/Circulator
• Monitors patient status-VS/pain/bleeding-keeps MD and Anesthesia provider informed
• Administers necessary medications and fluids
• Completes paper chart and enters information accurately into EMR system
• Sets-up Escript prescriptions
• Schedules necessary follow-up appointments with patients
• Reinforces post-op teaching with patient and family
• Notifies MD when patient has met all discharge criteria
• Transports patient to car via wheelchair
• Cleans/Restocks PACU area
• Assists in next day chart prep/pre and post op calls
• Assists with cleaning and processing of instruments
Circulator
• Pulls necessary medications from narcotics cabinet with another RN and verifies drug counts
• Reviews plan of care prior to surgery
• Assists with proper patient positioning
• Administers necessary treatments/injections/bloodwork as noted from plan of care
• Maintains OR flow during the procedure day
• Assists with providing additional supplies/equipment needed during surgery
• Provides report to RR nurse
• Enters necessary info to EMR system
• Accurately maintains/labels specimens
• Assists MA with cleaning sterilizers
• Unpacks and puts away supply orders/laundry
• Maintains clean environment in all area of the OR
• Assists MA with scanning charts to eBridge
• Attends necessary training/staff meetings; for example: cpr/acls, OSHA/Bloodborne pathogens, maintains continuing education courses and necessary licensing.
• Restocks unit paperwork/charts as needed
Assists OR Manager as necessary: ordering, policy writing/auditing, QI projects.
Requirements
PREREQUISITE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EDUCATION
• Active Registered Nurse license
• Demonstrated ability to effectively operate the EMR and other computer programs as necessary
• Must be able to learn the IVF process and provide necessary care for IVF patients
• Superb written and verbal communication skills
• Intermediate skill level in MS Office products, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Strong organizational skills
• Effective written and verbal communication skills with co-workers, management and patients
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams and individually
