What is an Achilles?

The term 'Achilles' most commonly refers to the Achilles tendon, which is the thick, strong tendon connecting the calf muscles to the heel bone in the human body. Healthcare professionals such as orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, and sports medicine specialists often work with injuries related to the Achilles tendon, like tendonitis or ruptures. Understanding the function and care of this tendon is essential for diagnosing and treating lower leg injuries, especially in athletes or active individuals. Proper rehabilitation and prevention strategies are vital to maintain mobility and avoid re-injury.
