Job Summary
The Senior Accountant plays a key role in safeguarding the University's financial integrity through the management of complex accounting activities, financial reporting, and compliance functions. This position supports the preparation of auditable financial statements, ensures compliance with applicable regulations and accounting standards, and contributes to the effective stewardship of institutional resources.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Reconcile university credit card accounts and ensure accurate recording of transactions.
- Coordinate year-end procedures related to capital assets, including buildings, land improvements, and Construction in Progress (CIP).
- Prepare and support the Capital Assets Note for the Annual Financial Report (AFR) and assist with other AFR reporting requirements.
- Review journal entries and payroll deduction payments prior to wire processing to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Review wire transfer and check disbursement logs; process and print checks as needed.
- Monitor and clear suspense and clearing accounts, resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Prepare quarterly financial reports and Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) submissions.
- Maintain and administer Banner approval queues to support efficient workflow processing.
- Perform additional accounting and financial reporting duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- Experience working with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Preferred:
- 4-6 years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience
- Experience with Banner ERP systems
- Experience with QuickBooks and fund accounting
Additional Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards (GASB) standards and higher education financial reporting requirements
- Knowledge of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and governmental accounting standards
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
