Job Title: Accounts Payable Specialist
Job Type: Direct Hire
Location: On-site | Fairfax, VA area
Schedule: Monday-Friday | Standard business hours
Compensation: $65,000 - $75,000 / depending on experience
Overview
A stable and growing organization in the construction industry is seeking an Accounts Payable Specialist to join its accounting team. This is a strong opportunity for someone with prior AP experience in construction or manufacturing who is looking for a long-term role in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
The team is looking for someone who can step into a hands-on AP role, support day-to-day invoice and payment processing, and work effectively across purchasing, operations, and vendors.
Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and process accounts payable transactions
  • Perform high-volume AP data entry
  • Process vendor payments, including checks and ACH
  • Match invoices to purchase orders where applicable
  • Reconcile processed work by verifying entries and supporting documentation
  • Code invoices and accurately allocate expenses to accounts and cost centers
  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies
  • Monitor payment timing, discount opportunities, and outstanding credits
  • Maintain AP files and documentation in accordance with company requirements
  • Communicate with vendors, subcontractors, and internal departments in a timely manner
  • Partner with operations and purchasing teams to support accurate processing
  • Assist with additional accounting and administrative duties as needed

Qualifications
  • 2+ years of Accounts Payable experience
  • Prior experience in the construction or manufacturing industry required
  • Strong understanding of full-cycle AP processes
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • High attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience with construction accounting software
  • Experience with Spectrum/Viewpoint or similar ERP systems
