Job description

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Senior Accountant will assist in all aspects of accounting including preparing and maintaining financial records, entries and reconciliations for billing, collections, payables, and payroll accounting. 

RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Performs general cost accounting and other related duties for the organization. 

  • Prepares monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements. 

  • Maintains the general ledger. 

  • Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books. 

  • Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks. 

  • Reconciles cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts; manages accounts receivable collections. 

  • Verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts. 

  • Files tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies. 

  • Coordinates with software vendor to maintain accounting software systems; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software. 

  • Manages the purchasing and invoicing system. 

  • Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures. 

  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 

  • Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing and accounting systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions. 

  • Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates. 

  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions. 

  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices. 

  • Identifies and recommends updates to payroll accounting software, systems, and procedures. 

  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

  • Coordinates and performs monthly calls with Office Managers and Executive Directors

  • Provides training and support to Office Managers. This may include travel for onsite trainings and check-ins

  • Supervisory Responsibility: The Senior Accountant may oversee the scheduling, assignments, and daily workflow of office managers at various seniors housing communities. 

Education & Experience:   

  • Must possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, with a focus in accounting preferred. 

  • At least 2 years of relevant accounting experience. 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, accounting software, and payroll software. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:   

  • Knowledge of general financial accounting. 

  • Knowledge of payroll functions including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes. 

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices. 

  • Ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.  

  • Comfortable with technology and the use of various software programs.  

  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, prioritize, and demonstrate excellent time management skills. 

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.  

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. 

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills. 

Standard Requirements:  

  • Sincere interest in providing quality and compassionate services for seniors. 

  • Must meet requirements for criminal history screening.  

  • Must have a clean driving record and valid car insurance. 

  • Ability to work as a team. 

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times. 

Certificates & Licenses: CPA preferred.
