Job Summary

An Accounting Clerk supports the accounting department by performing routine financial and clerical tasks tomaintainaccurateand up-to-date financial records. This entry- to mid-level role involves processing accounts payable and receivable, recording transactions, reconciling accounts, andassistingwith financial reporting and month-end procedures.Key responsibilities include verifying and processing invoices, preparing payments, generating invoices, recording receipts and payments, performing data entry into accounting systems, reconciling bank statements with the general ledger, andmaintainingorganized financial documentation. The position ensures compliance with basic accounting practices and supports audits by providing required records.

This role requires attention to detail,proficiencyin accountingsoftware, basic knowledge of bookkeeping principles, and strong organizational skills.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Process accounts payable: verify invoices, match to purchase orders andreceivingdocuments, code expenses, and prepare payments.

  • Process accounts receivable: generate invoices, record customer payments,monitoraging receivables, and follow up on overdue accounts.

  • Record financial transactions accurately in accounting software or general ledger.

  • Reconcile bank statements with general ledger accounts monthly.

  • Perform data entry of financial information into databases and spreadsheets.

  • Maintain and update accounting records, files, and databases.

  • Prepare and post general ledger entries and journal entries as assigned.

  • Assistin month-end and year-end closing procedures.

  • Compile and generate basic financial reports, summaries, and statements.

  • Verify accuracy of financial data and resolve discrepancies.

  • Prepare bank deposits and track cash receipts.

  • File and organize financial documents, invoices, receipts, and correspondence.

  • Support audits by gathering and providing required documentation.

  • Handle clerical tasks related to accounting, such as scanning, copying, and mailing documents.

  • Assistaccountingteam with administrative duties and special projects as needed.

Experience and Education

Education

  • High school diploma or GEDrequired.

  • Post-secondaryeducation preferred:Degree in accounting, bookkeeping, business administration, or related field; or certificate in accounting/bookkeeping.

  • Some college coursework in accounting or equivalent

Experience

  • 0-2 years of relevant accounting, bookkeeping, or clerical experience

  • 1-3 years of experience in accounts payable/receivable, data entry, or fiscal record-keeping

  • Proficiencywith accounting software and Microsoft Excel; basic understanding of GAAP principles.

  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may substitute
