Job description

Job Summary

Southport Truck Group is growing and looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team. This role plays a key part in supporting daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, reconciliations, vendor management, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Work full-time in office, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
• Process and post invoices received through AP systems and email
• Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies
• Code and manage company credit card transactions
• Prepare and coordinate check runs, ACH payments, and other disbursements
• Perform bank reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records
• Track and research outstanding checks
• Set up and maintain vendor accounts, including W-9s and credit applications
• Manage vendor payment methods and maintain compliance documentation (COIs)

• Assist with sales and use tax reporting, as applicable
• Manage 1099 reporting and compliance
• Handle unclaimed property reporting
• Review and process employee expense reports
• Assist with month-end closing and financial reporting as needed
• Maintain organized records and a professional work environment
• Work independently with minimal supervision while meeting deadlines
• Support additional accounting functions as assigned

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field preferred
• 2+ years of accounting or accounts payable experience preferred
• Strong understanding of basic accounting principles
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
• Experience with accounting software and ERP systems is a plus
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• Effective problem-solving and analytical skills
• Ability to communicate professionally with vendors and internal teams
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Must be able to remain seated for extended periods and operate standard office equipment
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus, but not required
