LOCATION: KONA COMMUNITY HOSPITAL | Admitting
POSITION STATUS: FTE: 0.500000 | Permanent
SALARY RANGE: BU03 | SR13
SALARY RATE: $22,608.00 (Annual Salary)
SHORTAGE DIFFERENTIAL: $692.00/month
JOB DUTIES: This position is located in the Patient Access unit of the Fiscal Services section of Kona Community Hospital, a 94-bed acute care facility located on the island of Hawaii (Big Island), serving as the West Hawaii Regional Center, which also includes Kohala Hospital. It is one of nine facilities within the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation. The Patient Access unit is responsible for securing demographic and financial information to complete patient registration; collecting data and inputting the information into the hospital's computer system; securing authorization and obtaining benefits for patient services; answers switchboard and operates other communication equipment.
MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK SHIFTS AS NECESSARY BASED ON HOSPITAL OPERATIONS; SERVICES ARE PROVIDED 24/7.
THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: High school diploma or equivalent.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of typing, stenographic, clerical work, cashiering, data input, customer service skills or any combination of these experiences which duties demonstrated knowledge of English grammar, spelling, arithmetic, standard office equipment; and the ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, carry out procedures in clerical work systems, speak and write simply and directly, observe differences in copy and proofread words and numbers quickly and accurately, and operate various kinds of office equipment; and ability to deal effectively with others in eliciting information and providing service.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR GENERAL EXPERIENCE: An Associate's or Bachelor's from an accredited college or university may substitute for all of the General Experience required.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of work experience performing admission activities in a hospital; interviewing patients and/or responsible persons to secure information, securing signatures for insurance benefits; arranging for method of payment for costs not covered by insurance; and preparing admitting records.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
KNOWLEDGE OF: Office practices and procedures; grammar, spelling, punctuation and work usage; use of standard office machines; techniques of interviewing others to obtain pertinent information. Patient accounting operations, registration and standard intake techniques. Third party payor requirements, credit and collection practices. Federal regulations including COBRA, Advance Directives, Medicare, Medicaid, JCAHO, OSHA and HIPAA as they relate to hospital intake and payment for services. Customer service philosophies and practices.
ABILITY TO: Make arithmetic computations; compare names and numbers rapidly and accurately; type at the rate of 40 net words per minute and be computer knowledgeable in a windows based environment; operate a telephone switchboard, teleprocessing terminal, and inter-communication system; file materials numerically and alphabetically; follow oral and written instructions; accept and follow instructions; cooperative; communicate positively and effectively with staff, patient and patient family; work harmoniously with others; understand, explain and apply policies, procedures, rules and regulations pertinent to the admission of patients to an acute, skilled nursing or outpatient hospital or outpatient procedure; keep matters confidential; interview others to obtain pertinent admissions information; ability to speak and write English.

If you do not submit your request within the twenty (20) days deadline, no Administrative Review will be conducted. The administrative review, formal complaint and/or appeals hearing will not necessarily postpone the recruitment process and/or rescind a selection.
