Job description

O&G Industries, Inc., a diversified construction and materials company based in Torrington, Connecticut, is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to help lead our accounting team.

This is an opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys working with people as much as working with numbers. The Accounting Manager will oversee the day-to-day accounting operation, ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, and play a key role in developing a growing accounting team. The Accounting Manager reports to the Controller.

We are looking for a leader who will coach employees, answer questions, solve problems, establish priorities, and help the team continuously improve.

What You'll Do
  • Lead the day-to-day activities of the accounting department and establish priorities for the team.
  • Supervise, coach, develop, and hold accounting staff accountable for accuracy, deadlines, and performance.
  • Oversee month-end and year-end close processes and preparation of financial statements.
  • Maintain the general ledger, including journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
  • Review and analyze financial results, identify discrepancies and trends, and bring issues to management's attention.
  • Oversee accounting activities for multiple subsidiaries.
  • Develop and maintain effective accounting procedures and internal controls.
  • Work closely with operations and senior leadership to understand financial results and support business decisions.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and other outside professionals.
  • Participate in accounting system improvements, software implementations, and process-improvement initiatives.
  • Manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
What We're Looking For

The Accounting Manager will be expected to work alongside the team, provide day-to-day guidance and coaching, address issues as they arise, and collaborate directly with company leadership.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory or management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles.
  • Experience with general ledger, financial statements, reconciliations, and month-end close.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, develop, and motivate an accounting team.
  • Ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines, and respond to issues with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office/Excel; experience with ERP systems preferred.
