Job description

Vie-Del is a major producer of concentrates from grapes and other fruits, brandy, spirits, and wines. We are currently seeking talented candidates to join the Vie-Del Family. We offer a competitive salary and excellent benefit package in an employee friendly and rewarding environment.
The Cost Accountant is responsible for ensuring the day to day activities of the Accounting department are conducted in a timely manner; accounting transactions are recorded in accordance with company policies and procedures. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) are applied to the maintenance of account records and preparation of financial statements and reports are prepared and distributed in a timely manner.
DUTIES:
Cost Accounting Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain the cost accounting standards
  • Conduct inventory reserve analysis
  • Assist the Controller with suggesting changes to policies or procedures
  • Accumulate and apply overhead costs as required
  • Review rates of depreciation, labor and overhead and suggest policy changes to improve numbers
  • Make estimates of new and proposed product costs
  • Classify costs accurately
  • Generate Purchase Price Variance (PPV) reports and analyze findings
  • Establish standard costs and update them as appropriate
  • Maintain and review the general ledger and reconcile balance sheets
  • Analyze costs of raw materials and other supplies and create cost-benefit analyses for changing vendors
  • Provide management with reports that specify and compare factors that affect prices and profitability of products or services
  • Prepare monthly journal entries
  • Assist in audits and general ledger preparation
  • Assist with physical inventories

Analytical Responsibilities
  • Conduct ongoing process constraint analyses
  • Report on breakeven points by products, work centers, and plants
  • Report on margins by product and division
  • Report on periodic variances and their causes
  • Analyze capital budgeting requests

1. Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree from a 4-year college or university with an interdisciplinary background in accounting/business
  • 2 years of Cost Accounting work experience (essential).
  • Sound understanding of Accounting principles.

  • Analytical thinker with strong conceptual and problem-solving skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with superb organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent report-writing, communication and IT skills.

2. English Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as financial statements, general ledgers, journals and journal entries, detailed specifications, instructions and legal and contractual documents. Ability to write reports and business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information, both verbally and in writing.
3. Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to utilize statistical methods in basic data analysis. Ability to plot data and construct and interpret graphs.
4. Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect relevant data, establish facts and draw statistically valid conclusions. Ability to use abstract and concrete variables. Ability to provide and interpret an extensive variety of detailed technical instruction and information in written, mathematical or graphical form.
5. Other Requirements
Higher level of experience with spreadsheet applications. Intermediate or higher level of experience with Internet search engines. Employment history of candidate must demonstrate ability to achieve results.
